Introducing the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Figure Skaters – Women

The 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics Women’s figure skating events take place on the 17th and 19th of February. The short program is held on the 17th and free skate on the 19th.

Twenty-nine skaters from twenty-two countries are scheduled to take part in the event. Here we will introduce all of the competition. 

Austria

Olga Mikutina

Olga Mikutina represents Austria and is 22 years old. Mikutina was born in Ukraine but began representing Austria in 2016 after her parents moved her there for better training conditions. She moved to New Jersey in 2023, studying at Montclair State University. Mikutina is a 5-time National Champion, and has appeared at 5 consecutive World Championships, her best finish being 8th in 2021. She placed 13th at the 2022 Olympics.  

Belgium

Loena Hendrickx

Loena Hendrick represents Belgium and is 26 years old. Hendrickx is the 2024 European Champion, a two-time World medalist, and a two-time Grand Prix Final medalist. She had to miss the European and World Championships last season due to an ankle injury that required surgery. Due to Pinzarrone placing high enough at the World Championships, Hendrickx was able to participate in the Skate to Milano competition to earn a second quota for Belgium. Hendrickx has struggled to regain her prior form, her comeback being marred by illness and injury. She had to change her short program music due to rights issues shortly before the Olympics. Hendrickx is coached by her brother Jorik. This will be her third Olympics, placing 16th in 2018, and 7th in 2022.

Nina Pinzarrone represents Belgium and is 19 years old. Pinzarrone also struggled with injury earlier this season, having to withdraw from both of her Grand Prix assignments. Pinzarrone is a two-time European medalist and 3-time National Champion. She qualified for the Grand Prix Final in 2023. Pinzarrone earned her Olympic spot by placing 7th at the 2025 World Championships. She is frequently choreographed by Benoît Richaud, who went viral at the Olympics for the number of countries he was representing in the kiss and cry. 

Bulgaria

Alexandra Feigin represents Bulgaria and is 23 years old. Feigin was born in Israel but has always represented Bulgaria in competition. This will be her second Olympic appearance after placing 23rd in 2022. Feigin is a 7-time National champion and a Challenger series medalist. She has competed at 6 World Championships and 7 European Championships. Feigin was a flag bearer in the opening ceremony. 

Canada

Madeline Schizas represents Canada and is 23 years old. Schizas has become known as a stellar team competitor, having one of her best skates in the team event during the 2022 Olympics. Schizas has become known for her blunt reactions following scores or bad competitions. She is a 4-time National Champion, and placed 18th at the 2022 Olympics. Schizas is a Challenger series medalist. She went viral during these Olympics for contacting her university professor and asking for an extension because she was competing at the Games. 

China

Ruiyang Zhang represents China and is 18 years old. After China were unable to secure a women’s quota at the 2025 World Championships, Zhang, in her first senior-eligible season, was sent to the Skate to Milano competition, where she placed 5th, picking up the final allocation. She is a National silver medalist and won the Asian Open Trophy earlier this season. Zhang took part in the team event, where China placed 8th.

Estonia

Niina Petrõkina represents Estonia and is _ years old. She is a back-to-back European Champion, impressively winning her second title last month after missing several months due to injury. Petrõkina has a popular gala program where she skates to Cell Block Tango from Chicago, incorporating other male skaters from the competition in the production, where she acts out killing them off along with the music. 

Finland

Iida Karhunen represents Finland and is 17 years old. Countrywoman Linnea Ceder earned Finland’s quota at the 2025 World Championships, but failed to have as much success this season, meaning it was a tight-fought battle between Olivia Lisko and newly senior Karhunen. Karhunen’s technical prowess ultimately secured her spot during the European Championships where she placed 10th. Karhunen has become known for the blinking choreography at the beginning of her short program. She is a Challenger Series medalist.

France

Lorine Schild represents France and is 21 years old. In 2024, she placed a career-best 5th at the European Championships. Schild won the Olympic spot through having better, more consistent results than her compatriot Lea Serna. She is a Challenger Series medalist. After a difficult European Championships last month, where she placed 18th, she rallied to have a good result in the team event short program, although the team were collectively unable to qualify for the free skate. 

Great Britain

Kristen Spours represents Great Britain and is 25 years old. Spours had a successful 2024/25 season, placing top 10 at Europeans and then securing a quota for the Olympics at the World Championships. However, a short time later, Spours, who had previously had back injuries, developed a disc herniation, which caused her to lose feeling in her leg. She had surgery and announced a hiatus from competing. Gradually, she was able to return to training and develop her jumps, winning her second National title and competing at Europeans last month. She is still hindered by her injury, which stops her from being able to jump the required double axel in the short program. Spours will be retiring after this season’s World Championships. 

Georgia

Anastasiia Gubanova represents Georgia and is 23 years old. She previously skated for Russia but switched to Georgia in 2021. Gubanova is the 2023 European Champion, and has medaled at the competition two other times. Gubanova placed a disappointing 28th at the 2025 World Championships, failing to make the free skate. This meant she had to attend the Skate to Milano competition to confirm her Olympic spot, where she came 2nd. Gubanova is married to former Finnish skater Roman Galay, he proposed to her at the NHK Trophy Grand Prix in 2023. 

Israel

Mariia Seniuk represents Israel and is 20 years old. She placed 16th at the 2025 World Championships, earning a quota for the country. Seniuk’s Olympic spot was up in the air until the final week before the competition as she had not yet been granted citizenship, having been born in Russia. Seniuk is a Challenger Series champion, and became the first woman representing Israel to compete on the Grand Prix series. She will also become the first woman to represent Israel at the Olympics. Seniuk is coached by Eteri Tutberidze’s former student Polina Tsurskaya. She was a flag bearer in the opening ceremony.

Italy

Lara Naki Gutmann represents Italy and is 23 years old. Gutmann is the reigning European bronze medalist and the first Italian woman to podium since Carolina Kostner. She is also a Grand Prix Finalndia Trophy bronze medalist. Gutmann is known for her interesting conceptual programs, such as her Jaws-inspired free skate this season, her Squid Game short program last season, and her Hitchcock medley free skate. She won team event bronze earlier in these Olympics.  

Japan

Mone Chiba represents Japan and is 20 years old. She is the 2024 Four Continents Champion, 2025 World bronze medalist, and 2024 Grand Prix Final silver medalist. Chiba grew up in the same town as two-time Olympic Champion Yuzuru Hanyu, and they met on the ice several times. He was seen as like a big brother to her and her idol. Chiba was the only woman this season to win both of her Grand Prix assignments, but has struggled to maintain that consistency at the Final, Nationals, and Four Continents. She will be skating last in the short program. 

Ami Nakai

Ami Nakai represents Japan and is 17 years old. In 2022, Nakai became the 20th woman to land a clean 3A in international competition. She incorporates it into both her short program and free skate layouts, allowing for high scoring potential if she’s able to land it. This is her first senior season, and she immediately impressed skating fans by winning her first Grand Prix assignment and qualifying for the Grand Prix Final, where she placed 2nd. When Nakai placed 4th at Nationals, it confirmed her Olympic participation. She became a Four Continents silver medalist last month. 

Kaori Sakamoto

Kaori Sakamoto represents Japan and is 25 years old. Sakamoto placed 6th at the 2018 Olympics, and earned the bronze medal in 2022. She is also a two-time team event silver medalist. Sakamoto is a 3-time World Champion; she won these titles consecutively, being the first woman to do so in 56 years. She is the 2023 Grand Prix Final champion and 2018 Four Continents Champion. Sakamoto’s heartbreaking short program this season, set to Time To Say Goodbye, reflects that it will be her final competitive season as she has announced her retirement. 

Kazakhstan

Sofia Samodelina represents Kazakhstan and is 18 years old. She began representing Kazakhstan during the 2024/25 season through family ties to the country. Samodelkina previously represented Russia as a junior and was the 15th woman to land a triple axel, and 9th woman to land a quad. Neither of these jumps are currently in her repertoire, although she was training the 3A earlier this season. She currently trains under Rafael Arutyunyan, the coach of 2022 Olympic Champion Nathan Chen. This season, she became the first woman representing Kazakhstan to medal on the Grand Prix series. 

Republic of Korea

Haein Lee

Haein Lee represents the Republic of Korea and is 20 years old. She is the 2023 World silver medalist, 2023 Four Continents Champion, and a 6-time National medalist. She also contributed towards a silver World Team Trophy medal with the Korean team in 2023. Lee missed the first half of the 2024/25 season, as she was suspended due to accusations of alcohol use and sexual harassment of a minor member of the Korean team during a foreign training camp. After legal proceedings, Lee’s suspension was lifted, and she was allowed to return to competition. Lee confirmed her placement in the Olympic team through domestic results. 

Jia Shin

Jia Shin represents the Republic of Korea and is 17 years old. This is her first senior-eligible season, having spent most of her junior career placing 2nd to Japanese phenom Mao Shimada (who was too young for these Olympics). Shin is known for her classical and elegant programs. She is a 4-time Junior World silver medalist and Youth Olympics silver medalist. Jin is also a 3-time National Champion. Last month, she placed 6th at the Four Continents Championships. 

Lithuania

Meda Variakojyte represents Lithuania and is 18 years old. She qualified the first ever women’s spot for Lithuania at the Olympics by placing 24th at the 2025 World Championships. Variakojyte’s current coach Raimo Reinsalu was suspended by the ISU right before the Olympics due to accusations of abuse towards his students, though not from Variakojyte. She will therefore be accompanied by another member of the Lithuanian delegation during the Olympics. Variakojyte is a 3-time National Champion and won the Olympic spot after beating her countrymates consistently over the course of the season.  

Poland

Ekaterina Kurakova

Ekaterina Kurakova represents Poland and is 23 years old. Born in Russia, Kurakova has been representing Poland since 2018. She is an 8-time National champion. In 2024, she began training in France with coach Florent Amodio. She has placed 4th at the European Championships twice and earned an Olympic spot by placing 20th at the 2025 World Championships. Kurakova was 11th at the 2022 Olympics. She is known for her overjoyed reaction to good skates and a high performance quality in her programs.

Romania

Julia Sauter represents Romania and is 28 years old. She was born in Germany but switched to Romania in 2012 when she felt she was not given enough support from the federation. Sauter had a career-best free skate at Europeans last month, placing 11th overall with a tearful celebratory reaction. She has competed at 9 European Championships and 5 World Championships, and is a 9-time National Champion. Sauter was a flag bearer for Romania in the opening ceremony of the Games.

Switzerland

Livia Kaiser represents Switzerland and is 21 years old. She narrowly missed out on the 2024 European podium, placing 4th. Kaiser suffered an injury in her last training session before the 2025 European Championships, a cut from a training partner’s blade, which caused muscle damage and a hematoma. She was able to compete at Worlds where she helped earn two quotas for Switzerland along with her teammate Kimmy Repond. Kaiser was tasked with achieving a benchmark score in order to confirm her Olympic placement during this season, a score she was unable to achieve due to not being fully recovered from her injury. Despite this, the Swiss committee allowed Kaiser to take the spot.

Kimmy Repond represents Switzerland and is 19 years old. Repond missed the first half of this season, having struggled with a foot injury since January last year. She is the 2023 European bronze medalist, a Challenger series medalist, and a two-time National Champion. Repond is coached by her sister Jérômie Repond, although, as she is starting a job as a psychotherapist next year, she will be finding a new coach. Repond is one of the tallest women on the figure skating circuit at 1.77m. 

USA

Amber Glenn

Amber Glenn represents the USA and is 26 years old. Glenn was the 26th woman to land a clean triple axel in international competition, and it is a staple of her short and free skate layouts. Glenn is openly bisexual and pansexual, and an advocate for mental health. She is the 2024 Grand Prix Final Champion, has won the World Team Trophy with Team USA twice, and has an Olympic gold from the Team event in this year’s Olympics. Glenn is also a 3-time National Champion.

Isabeau Levito represents the USA and is 18 years old. Levito is the 2024 World silver medalist and 2022 Junior World Champion. She also earned the silver medalist at the 2022 Grand Prix Final and is a former National Champion. Levito is an avid book reader. The trio of Glenn, Levito, and Liu have been dubbed the “Blade Angels” due to how close the U.S. women’s team are.

Alysa Liu

Alysa Liu represents the USA and is 20 years old. She was the first U.S. woman to land a quad and first woman to land a quad and triple axel in the same program when she was a junior. Liu placed 6th at the 2022 Olympics, and following the 2022 World Championships where she won the bronze medal, she retired from competitive skating. Two years later, she announced her comeback and in a very successful 2024/25 season, won the World Championships. She is also this season’s Grand Prix Final champion and earned a gold medal in the Team event at these Olympics.

Adeliia Petrosian is an Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) from Russia and is 18 years old. Petrosian is coached by Eteri Tutberidze. The ISU allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus, after passing a neutrality screening, to compete at the Skate to Milano competition to qualify a spot for themselves at the Olympics. Petrosian won the competition. She regularly incorporates a triple axel and quad into her program content, but due to injuries these jumps have been inconsistent. Based on practice information, it is unlikely she will jump the 3A, and has been struggling with the quad. 

Viktoriia Safonova

Viktoriia Safonova is an Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) from Belarus and is 22 years old. Safonova previously skated for Russia but began representing Belarus in 2019. Safonova placed 12th at the 2022 Olympics. Like Petrosian, she was able to attend the Skate to Milano competition after passing neutrality screening. She placed 4th and earned a spot for herself. Safonova is known as a technical skater, but is often lacking in performance quality. Domestically, she has included a quad loop in her program content, although this has not been seen in competition since last season, and it has not been successful.
